by our distinguished chartered physiotherapist, Mr John Rutherford.
John is principal physiotherapist at the PTR Clinic in
Harley Street, London. His role is primarily assessment and treatment
of orthopaedic and neuromuscular dysfunction including: sports injuries,
spinal dysfunction and back pain, rehabilitation following fracture and
specific assessment of all mechanical joint dysfunction.
In assessment there is also specific emphasis on evaluation of inability
to perform specifics of normal movement, for example lack of speed when
sprinting, lack of distance on a golf drive or inability to maintain pain
free posture when working. Great care is taken when evaluating a patients
history and in planning a treatment program specific to the pathology
and patient goals. Treatment techniques incorporate joint mobilisation
and manipulation, training of muscle balance, co-ordination of nervous
system, osteopathic correction of spinal segments and development of specific
re-training programs for all sports and requirements of daily living.
Massage for sports injuries & relaxation are offered
by Pauline Spoon our highly experienced therapist. Benefits include: relaxing
muscles, decreasing pain, increasing circulation and promoting healing.
Massage in conjunction with physiotherapy can be a powerful treatment
in the management of pathologies providing patients with the quickest
route to recovery.

4 years postgraduate experience in NHS followed by 2 years orthopaedic
experience in Chicago Illinois. Qualified to practice in the USA
in 1987 on Illinois State License.
Past consultancies to professional sport, including:
premiership soccer, county cricket, athletics and baseball. Joint
founder in 1991 of the PTR Clinic in Harley Street. Continuing research
and development into neuromuscular physiology. Rehabilitation
of orthopaedic related injuries with a specific interest in spinal
treatment.
Primary role at present is in clinical practice accompanied by some
post-graduate teaching.
